Rear shackle questions. How short can u go?

Hey all,

Just got my buggy leaf together on my cj frame. MY GOD! There is a lot of flex. Well, my jeep is to high and I want to lower it about 2inches or so to level it out. I am happy with my springs and dont really want to remove any leafs cause I will have plenty of flex. Can I shorten the shackles? They are currently 3/4 larger than stock, What would happen if I made the rear shackles just large enough to work?

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

[/ QUOTE ]1. I thing this is the FIRST time I've ever heard this question!
2. In short, the answer is...
3. It would work.
4. I can think of a downside,
5. Just provide enough length,
6. To let the spring move...

I assume you said you "cant" think of a downside? The only concern I have is whether or not the main leafs would be able to compress as much since the shackle would only allow it to go so far... right? Cause when it compresses, it moves the shackle back

Ah,
I just re-read your post. Thats what you meant...lol. How do I figure out how short I can make them so that the axle can still move?

1. Hummm...
2. I think I'd just go w/stock length.
3. Keep it simple.
4. Let the Jeep engineers take the blame!

Right, but that doesn't solve my problem. I don't want to make more problems down the road but what else do you suggest? They are currently 4" superlift springs, SOA. I am happy with them but the jeep is sitting a little high in the rear. What would happen if I removed a leaf from them?

[/ QUOTE ]1. Here's what I'd do:[*] You're going to have to measure spring growth at maxim,[*] Cut a piece of wood that length,[*] And place it against the hanger.[*]Level with the frame.[*] Rotate the Shackle to meet the end of the wood.[*] You've now found the minimum length..
In reply to:

3. I think I'd be tending to install a helper/leaf on the front.
4. By removing a leaf from the rear,
5. You'll loose lift,
6. As well as strength.
7. It may increase body roll.

as far as height goes in the front, I am tall enough to run 38/40's when I get the money, I am trying to lower the rear, not raise the front.
