New (to me) 77 Wagoneer - what to look for?

I posted this on FSJ side of this BBS, but then realized that there is less 'traffic' there then here. Since I am excited about this, hence impatient to start soaking up new info, I am reposting it here - I am sure bunch of people here know about Wagoneers.

Hi all,
I might be acquiring 1977 Wagoneer in the next couple of weeks !!! I am pretty excited about it, however I don't know much about it. I have not seen it yet - but it is all original, 122k miles, straight body, really good interior, V8 (not sure which), Quadratc, etc. Soon to be PO says that it has low oil pressure problem (bad oil pump? - is that a common problem?), and that it is starting to quit while driving - some mechanics thinks that ignition module is about to give up the ghost. Also gas thank can only be filled full - apparently all '77 have this issue (if this is true what is the common fix?).
I am looking for any and all information you can give in regards to above mentioned problems, thinks to look for once I get it, as well as good Wagoneer specific websites.

Re: New (to me) 77 Wagoneer - what to look for?

Congrats on the new member to the family.. It will most likley have the 360 V8 (which by the way is always a great swap for the cj )..

Low oil pressure is always a problem with the AMC V8s.. Do a quick search, and you will see most people will tell you it comes with the terriroty.. There may be a few things you can do to help improve it, but it will always be an issue once it warms up..

As for the ignition module being a problem, again this is a common issue with the old amc stuff.. I personally haven't had any problems with mine, but there are a lot of members here who pick them up a couple at a time from the wreckers for next to nothing.. That is if you can find them in your area.. AMC engine are getting pretty rare in my neck of the woods...

Lastly, just a couple things to look for, and I'm sure other can expand on this list, but check out the frame on the inside by the gas tank.. Great place for them to rust out.. Also check that the rear window motor is working.. I beleive that this goes for all vehicles that have a power window in the 'tail gate'..

Hope it goes well.. I have always wanted a waggie in good condition to lift and through some big meats on.. They just look like they could take on anything...

Good luck.
