O/T how do you pay for your stuff on ebay

I've only used ebay twice and got ripped off the first time that I did. Now I'm a high bidder in an auction that is closing.

What if the seller is not in driving distance, and says, "sorry, no pay-pal"?

Do I send him a check before I recieve my junk, or what? How do you ebayers handle this?

Personal check or money order. I've bought probably one hundred items over the past two years and have not been stiffed yet. I try to buy from sellers with a lot of feedback and only those with a very high percent of positive feedback. Go into the feedback for your seller and read what other buyers have said. Of course I don't think I've ever made an ebay purchase that was over fifty dollars.

I use Pay Pal now. I used to use money orders all the time. I never once got ripped off. I have purchased a ton of stuff off of Ebay in the last couple of years. As a matter of fact I just purchased something last week and paid for it with a money order and got it yesterday no problem. Besides, money orders are traceable. Good luck.

When I first started using Ebay, I used to only send money via money order. Then I started to trust in Paypal for some reason. Now that's the only way I go.

US postal service Money order. Its traceable and you don't mess with the post office.
I think it is a federal document, but I could be mistaken.
PayPal is great too, for sending and receiving.
Good luck, now tell us what you are buying.

Re: O/T how do you pay for your stuff on ebay

I bought from them once - used Pay Pal - the "fraud specialists."
Pay Pal took my credit card number - they started charging all kinds of things to it for Ebay stuff. I never recieved ANY of it - I hadn't purchased anything more or authorized anything - I called and talked to them several times - they denied it -- but it was charged to THEM!

I had to cancel that credit card number and file charges with the police and the District Attorney's Office. The credit card company reversed the charges to Pay Pal. They told me they constantly get fraud complaints with both Ebay and Pay Pal.

They still send me emails telling me my number's "on file" with them even though I've requested them to erase it.

Watch out!

Money orders or PayPal.....never had any problem after several years and dozens of transactions.

I always use Postal Money Orders. I heard something about it being federal offense if they don't deliver. I think you can actually get them from the USPS web site now too. Don't forget to put the ebay item # on the MO.

Re: O/T how do you pay for your stuff on ebay

Aaron, Before bidding I look to see if seller will take either Pay Pal or personal check. If they only take certified checks I do not bid. I also look to see their feedback total and will even read some of the replys. I do not bid on anything with out a good picture or if they show a stock photo that is not the actual item.

Pay Pal is great because it is fast and secure. I do not like sending certified or cashiers checks, because twice they were "lost in the mail" and the bank said they could not stop payment. With a personal check I can tarck it and stop payment if I want. The only thing is that it takes longer with personal check.

I have purchased several items including vehicles and I am generally satisfied with the process.

You could also offer the seller to pay the Pay Pal fees he has to pay and sometimes they will make an exception and take it that way. If he's not willing to work with you, then it could be a scam.

You just have to becareful with who you are buying from and if they give you a number to call, call and ask questions.

Good Luck

While a PITA, USPS "postal" MOs *ARE* the best way to go. As has been metioned, screwing you over after paying with one is both theif and postal fraud. While the USPS technically isn't a federal organization... the postal inspectors have "federal jurisdiction". To quote something I heard in a movie once "...they'll crawl up their a$$hole with a microscope..."
