Some may be offended..

Offensive Blue.. Obnoxious Blue..

whatever you want to call it, it's here.

Ok, less on the paintjob and more on the tech rite?

It's 3/16" steel reinforced on the topside with 3/16" thick 1.5X1.5" boxed tube..

Uses the stock 6 mounting bolts, and has a "ramp" that angles up a bit and comes all the way forward almost perfectly (1/2" clearance) infront of and below the TH350 sump.

If I may say so myself.. a feat of engineering, considering its so heavy it was almost all measured off relationships from one bolt hole to another..

one man CAN bolt it up himself.. but it tkaes elbows, knees and toes.. erm.. fingers.

Also.. the t-case is supposed when the skidplate is out by my hi-lift ladder, conviniently the correct size to slip over the frame rails and under the output to hold the entire getup undernaeth there without a jack.

Now for the pictures.

Re: Some may be offended..

I've got some 1/4" plexi here.. but I don't think it would standup to the punishment..

my 25" long rear driveshaft was the real motivator.. it was mod the old plate.. or build a new one..

well that and the way the trans pan is made from old beercans.

Actually it's probably lighter than having to carry the spare parts that you'd break otherwise, not to mention the tools needed. And, it's lower down than those parts would be, so CG is better.
When you hear hit and scape something, you can laugh instead of stop and look for oil.

Re: Some may be offended..

I just realised I don't have any support in there for my anti-wrap bar.

(Serves me right for thinking of this project in a grill to tailgate fahion instead of as a whole. )

Do you think a large peice of 3/16" plate welded where the bolts go through would be enough? Orshould I "strap" it with some more peices of tube on the rear lip?

Or will the 3/16" hold up on its own?

1. Do it once,
2. Do it right,
3. Reinforcement is good!
4. Now go weld on that tube!

Re: Some may be offended..

Great pics. I am in the process of doing the same project on my cj. I plan on a smaller skid for the crossmember and a skid plate in front of it will be a second piece will bolt seperatly. That way I can remove it later to do things and not mess with the cross member..
