rebuilding 350 for YJ-- Need Advice

Well Guys, I have my 350 for my 1995 YJ. Bought a 1990 Chevy Caprice Police car with the 350- TBI. whole running car for $350---it's worth that in scrap alone!

i am now starting to rebuild the motor. I have not done this before but have plenty of hands to help. I work at a Jeep dealership and the techs have offered a hand in the conversion.

I geuss I am wondering what brands of equipment to rebuildit with. Should I get a GM rebuild kit or aftermarket? Replacement pistons, cam, valve covers, etc. I am wanting to know what some of you 350 Jeepers have done to yours. I am not planning on making this a speed demon, I want a mildly built motor that is reliable. Any suggestions, places to look for good deals on parts. Of course money is always an issue!? BTW I am mating this to a TH 350 and a 205 out of a 1985 Suburban

Thanks guys,

Re: rebuilding 350 for YJ-- Need Advice

Hey Brad, good luck with the rebuild. Lots of fun. With money being an issue, just use standard rebuild kit. I got mine from Autozone. It came with everything including pistons. While in there, I replaced the timing chain and water pump. Not much else. Mine was a carbureted 84 350. I installed it into an 81 CJ7 mated to a T18A/D300 combo. The jeep came with a 305 so everything was already there for the swap.
