O/T Going to Nashville

Dawife and I are going on a little trip to Nashville, TN over the weekend. Are there any Tenneseeans on this here board that can point me towards some fun stuff to do? We plan on going to Lynchburg to check out the Jack Daniels distillery, but other than that we have a wide open weekend.

Something that I wouldn't mind taking my wife to...

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Sean

Re: O/T Going to Nashville

dude! i lived in green hills (nashville) for 10 years. there is a surprisingly large amount of fun stuff to do around there.... check out the parthenon, although if i was going back i'd just spend most of my time on 2nd ave/broadway at hole-in-the-wall honky-tonk bars getting trashed and watching the redneck scenery!

nashvilles a great place, full of history, beautiful scenery, etc. I would definetly do the JD distillery, as well....

YJ: What exactly is the Parthenon? I thought that was in Greece...

LEVE: THANK YOU!! Thats exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I grew up in PA so I spent a lot of time in Gettysburg, Atietam, etc.. I was kind of hoping there would be Civil War battlefields around. That and plantations I think it would be neat to visit some plantations. Living in Wisconsin now, the only historical landmark to visit is Lambeau Field.

But it doesn't get any better than Lambeau Field. I dream of visiting Lambeau on a snowy Sunday afternoon.

Good luck....

For 10 years, I lived less than a block away from Lambeau. I was so close that I could tell something big was happening in the game before it occured on the screen. The crowd would ROAR and with the 5 second delay on live TV, I knew something was coming...

Out of the 10 years... I went to a total of.... 2 games.

Re: O/T Going to Nashville

The parthenon is a full size replica of the one in greece, including a 40 ft high exact replica of the massive athena statue inside. It's gold plated. A sight to behold, it's in the middle of centennial park....great stuff

Sure....

Yup and then when you're done at the Parthenon, go on down West End to Belle Meade Plantation and see what life was like back in the 1800s. If it was any other weekend, you'd see me blacksmithing, but I'm back home in Hickory to see my sis graduate.

Other places to see: County Music Hall of Fame ($15 I think), Belmont Mansion (rich lady from 1800s), Carnton (CW site), Oh yeah, The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's Home), Opry Mills (Really big mall with only one decent store), Ryman Audituorium, Travellers Rest (early 1800s life), Cheekwood (if you like art), oh and Frist (if you really like art). I could go on.....

Oh yeah the General Jackson river boat is supposed to be cool.

Later,
Fritz

Re: O/T Going to Nashville

Last time I was in Nashville, I went to the Lane Auto Museum. It was pretty neat if you like the European micro cars. I believe that it is a private collection.

Anyone that lives in Nashville would probably shoot me, but the Opry Land Hotel is pretty neat on the inside. The center of the buildings have large glass roofs and lots of gardens inside.
