I stopped by a local performance shop today and talked to them about swapping out my ring and pinion gears. It was 250.00 for the rear and 300.00 for the front plus parts. Is that a good price or should I find somewhere else to do it? If I do this I am only going to do the rear (pulling the front driveshaft opf course)and do the front later when I can afford them.

I paid 150/axle. I thought I got a good deal.

Sounds a bit stiff.....the price is usually around #200 per axle. If you buy the parts from them, you usually get a slight break...but then, you typically pay more for the part, hence the end result is the same.

Some personal advice...unless you want to get into the gear changing business...your better off paying someone to do it. Just make sure you find out how long they warranty their work. Gear problems can take a long time to show up. It's also a good time to do everything you want...gears, lockers, etc, at the same time. Saves setup labor costs.

One last thing....as a typical rule of thumb...
4.10 gears for 31-33" tires
4.56 gears for 35" tires.

Setups run from 200 bucks to 400 bucks. Depending on the rear. They want more for the front, cause they have to take more apart. It takes alot longer to pull the axles on a steering rear, then it does a non steering rear.

Contact Performance Off Road Center (PORC) over in Athens, they should be a good bit cheaper.
