how to \"pop\" a 465?

How do I pop the top off my SM465.

I got the 8 or so bolts.. but when it's lifted I realised that the shift assembly is in the lid.. not in the top of the tranny.

I can't even see inside (can only lift it like 1/2")

Do I have to take appart the bottom end to get the top off? or am I missing something?

Re: how to \"pop\" a 465?

Put a couple of bolts back in and the shifter. Now put the tranny about half way into reverse. Remove the shifter and bolts and the lid should lift off much easier. The reverse shift kinda loops around the main shaft to get to the revers shaft and gear. Having it partially in-or out allows it to clear easier.
