D300 seals

1 Attachment(s)
I finally got around to changing the output shaft seals on the D300. Piece of cake. I fabricated an easy puller that worked great and should work well when I get around to that pinion seal. It's cheap and easy to make. Just 1/4" plate with 5 holes, a 5/16" flanged nut brazed over the center hole and a 5/16" grade 5 fully threaded bolt ground to a point with lots of molly grease on the threads. The photo looked better in the camera.

Why go threw the hassle of making a puller, when 95% of the time you can just hit the back side of the yoke with a brass hammer and they will come right off. I have pulled a pile of yokes off and never needed a puller.

But anyway, great job on the puller. Its alot cheaper, then buying one.

Well that's one way, and a hammer is another way. I simply put a bearing spreader over the yoke (back next to the dust cover) and then put a cheap and junky Harbor Freight three jaw puller on the bearing spreader.

Many of them simply fall off... you might want to replace those.

Whatever works for you, it's all good.

Good Luck
