Jeep Chick\'s Jeep needs tranny

My girlfriend's dad said he "knew" a guy that would give her a great price to fix the tranny (AX-5) in her '92. That "great price" is gonna be AT LEAST $1,400.
SO what I need is... HELP!!!
I need a cheap, easily available ax-15, OR an EASY swap. The 4WD catalog lists the Chevy TH350 as an auto conversion. If anyone in driving distance (4 hours) has something that can help us, that'd be great.
Thanks!
PS... as a little "extra" motivation, I've got two cases of beer I can throw in on top of the asking price (gotta love being a Busch employee)

I thought all the 2.5L Jeeps had AX5s, not AX15s? Have you looked on EBay?

Re: Jeep Chick\'s Jeep needs tranny

I looked on Ebay and couldnt find anything in the immediate area. I was hoping for something cheaper than the $700 rebuilt ones I found in Tally and Orlando. Guess we might end up going with one fo those. And yes, its an AX-5 (typo since fixed)

Check with Fasson's...it's a place just off of county line road between Tampa and Lakeland. He has all kinds of Jeep and misc hard to find 4wd stuff. I'd give you his number but I'm out traveling in the Pac NW now. Good luck.

Re: Jeep Chick\'s Jeep needs tranny

Here are my two favorite local (Bradenton) junkyards. They might have what you're looking for. Also, remember that a lot of 4-cyl 4x4 Comanches also came with that tranny. If you find one local to me, I'd be willing to pick it up at the yard and haul it up to Tampa on a weekend.
