TFI wiring question

Doing TFI upgrade on 1989 Wrangler 4.2 The little silver capacitor on the old coil setup. Does that get eliminated or stay? Finding some postings about burning up duraspark 1 box. How do I know if I have Duraspark 1 or 2?

Re: TFI wiring question

The silver capacitor gets eliminated. As far as the Duraspark question, Jeep never used the duraspark 2, they were all the duraspark 1.

Re: TFI wiring question

Thanks! I will definatly use the GM Hei mod you sent me. I guess that would prevent the buidup of heat in the duraspark I have read about?

Re: TFI wiring question

It would completely eliminate the duraspark box. The HEI can still fail due to heat, but if you mount it to a piece of aluminum and make sure you use the heat transfer grease that comes with the module, you shouldn't have a problem. You could also look into a MSD 6 or other aftermarket controller, but the cost was to much for me to justify.

Re: TFI wiring question

I don't know how it would affect the emissions. I would guess it would lower the emissions, since the fuel would be burning more completely, but that is a guess. It would fail the visual test, if your area has one of those.

As far as the BBD carb, I am not sure how this would affect that, since I am not that familiar with the BBD. Someone else on the board may have an answer for that question.
