Where to start 89 Wrangler

Where to begin. I have a stock 89 Wrangler. I have recently ordered a TFI kit to upgrade the ignition. I believe I have been cursed with the peugot 5 speed. I have the Danas with 3.07 gears (lame). Any info on changing gearing to handle 33's? How bout lifts? Rough country lists a 3.5" with springs, shocks, pittman arm and transfer case lowering kit? Anyone familiar with there products

Re: Where to start 89 Wrangler

As far as lifts go, i was going to get the rough country kit too, but everyone on this board told me that it was exactly that....rough. As far as gearing goes, first figure out what size lift and tires you are going to get, then do a search, it's been discussed a hundred or so times on here. Ask lots of questions, everything i know about my jeep came from the awesome folks here on the board. Welcome to the board and good luck with your jeep.

p.s. what part of pa are you from?

Re: Where to start 89 Wrangler

how much skills you got?

way easier to do what we did to a buddy's: swap in axles from a 4cyl. they have 4.10s, and the cost will probably come out ahead. saves you gear setup time or cost.

and look into a spring over.

Re: Where to start 89 Wrangler

Just remember with the "Rough" Country lift...you get what you pay for in lift kits. 3.5" Rough country lift might actually give you 2" of lift, a little bit better ride, and no better articulation. Just so you know. Measure from the ground to the highest point of your fender flare pre-lift and post-lift and you will be wondering where they come up with the "3.5" Lift Kit" title.
