YJ Speedo Swap

After 230,000 miles the speedo and tach in my 88 YJ are very tired. I have a 93-95 speedo and tach that I'd like to swap in. I have a vss sensor that came with my np242. The question is can I splice the tach to the existing wiring and run 12v + and - to the vss with the sense going to the new speedo? Will this work correctly or not at all? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
