CJ t-case on FSJ transmission

Can I put a dana 300 case on a TF 727 our of an 82 full size cherokee? do I need an adapter or is it a direct bolt on? I was thinking of getting a motor and tranny out of the full size jeep and using my t-case in my CJ. (cause the outputs are on opposite sides) My 258 has a bad cylinder so I am exploring my options.

Re: CJ t-case on FSJ transmission

Yes, the D300 will bolt up to a 727 from a FSJ. However, there are clearance issues with the front driveshaft on the passenger side clearing the 727 housing. Do a search on here and you can get lots more info. Some people say that a 4" spring lift will allow the necessary clearance.

You could also use a part time case out of a FSJ such as a NP208 with a pair of axles from a FSJ with front drivers side drop. On 1980s FS Wagoneers and Cherokees with part time transfer cases they will have a Dana 44 front and AMC20HD or Dana44 rear

Re: CJ t-case on FSJ transmission

I am running an AMC 360, 727, and d300 in my cj. I have a 4" lift and there appears to be only slight contact once in a while. Not enough to dent the pan or bend the shaft.
