New tires

I just talked with Interco and my new tires will be here next week.
39.5 IROKs
I love these tires, they climb like a cat, and are lighter than my 38" SX's.
But they are still tough in the sidewall.

I wish I had them for our snow run in the Sierras this weekend. Oh well

Re: New tires

Yes, Interco is our newest sponsor.
I am really looking forward to having their support. I have always liked Intercos tires, and I was prepared to buy the IROKs with team money after seeing how well they performed at Put up or Shut up (Cougar Buttes).
I watched Dave Shnieder climb the bonus gate on B1 without water in his tires on a set of IROKs. The same obstacle denied Shannon cambell, Tracey Jordan and John Hall running other tires. the only other teams to climb that obstacle were all running between 150 and 250 lbs of water in each front tire.
These are gonna be one awsome rock crawling tire.

Re: New tires

You will definetly like them. They look good on Daves buggy, he was up in the snow last weekend running them. Another guy (Sean) had them on his new buggy and he was walking up snow covered rocks that were denying all other tires.

Re: New tires

How do you get into the competition scene and get lots of sponsors without going broke first? I've always wondered how much more went into it outside of driving for a few days at a competition. Also what kind of money can you make when you get a good rig and are a good driver?

It seems like you've become pretty successful after starting off with a stock YJ one day. I'm still dreaming of getting to half the point you are at......but I'm still a youngen. Congrats on the new tire sponsorship.

Adds weight for traction. By putting it in the tire, the center of gravity is moved even lower since the water will stay at the bottom of the tire. Farmers do the same thing to tractors.

Re: New tires

The comp rigs are getting really light.. and need more weight... kind of ironic that everyones got V6's and light engines, then need water to make up the weight

As for the IROCS.. haven't seen a pair in person.. but I've seen the BFG Krawlers.. and around here.. there's no comparison.. it's like night and day. traction and slip..

They just hook up and go.

but they're VERY soft.. guy I know has gone though 1/16" in a month and a half.

Re: New tires

After talking with my rep at Interco about 20 minutes ago, I just found out that they are actually sending me a set of the NEW IROK Radials to test.
The IROK rubber is also softer and grippier(that is new word) than the BFG or Goodyear tires.
I dont know how well these tires will perform or last on the street, but thats not my job to find out. I will be seeing how well they do in all terrains.
I will be testing a set of 39.5x20 IROKs on 20" beadlocks on my F250 for some street use, here in the future, but it will not be a long term test, as I dont want to run tires that large on my tow rig.
