Blower on a ZX2

My brother has a late model ZX2 which is of course out of warranty. We got together last night and it started doing something weird. The blower for the heat inside the card didn't work. We originally thought it might be just a fuse blown or something like that, but after a few minutes of driving the blower all of a sudden turned on and worked fine. After we ate dinner and got back in the car to drive back to my house, the blower didn't work at all the whole way back.

Finally, when he was on his way home from my house, it didn't turn on until he was driving at highway speeds for about 10 minutes.

What in the world could be causing this? Any ideas?

I'm stumped...

Blower Motor going bad? When it's not working see if the motor gets power, if it has then suspect the motor.

Re: Blower on a ZX2

I would guess the blower motor is going south and that is causing the problem. As a fan motor dies, you can usually get them spinning and they will then work, but they cannot start turning by themselves. As stated earlier, check voltage to the motor to rule out an intermittent power fault.

I wouldn't think a ZX2 would have this, but my Grand Cherokee Limited had a sensor that kept the fan off until the engine got to a certain temperature to keep me from getting frost bite from wind chill. If the ZX2 had one of these and it was going south, that may cause it.

Re: Blower on a ZX2

I know what you are talking about with the sensor. My Grand Cherokee has the same thing. But his car does have the climate conrol like that, its the usual 1.2.3.4.5 knob where you choose how hard it blows.

I guess it's time to pull out the Haynes manual and check to see if theres power getting to it.

Thanks,
Sean

I bet it's a bad motor. (it has a bad spot in the armature) You can "test" this theory. Next time it quits, give it (the motor itself) a solid but not hard hit with something. (like a hammer handle or screwdriver or even your fist) Don't try to break it, just jolt it. If it starts up...........then replace it.
Let me know what you find.

I was expecting this thread to be about the SVT 300 horse 4 cyl and how to swap it in front of a ford T18.

I'm wicked disappointed.
