body tub swap

Is it possible to remove a 85 CJ 7 tub and replace it with a 92 wrangler tub?

Re: body tub swap

Anything is possible it all boils down to how much time and money you want to put into it....

Yes, just change 2 body mounts, the gas filler and choose how you want the tailgate.

Re: body tub swap

very popular swap for rusty CJ tubs. Do a search. Several guys have the swap on their pages and how they set up the new body mounts.

Re: body tub swap

I recently put a yj tub on my cj. The only issues you will have are some of the body mounts. For example, the mounts in front of the rear tires will not line up with the tub. I don't plan on using them cause I am going to tie my cage into the frame in at least 6 places. They will act as body mounts.

Also the rear frame mounts on the crossmember will not line up exactly. You will have to open the holes some.

All in all its an easy swap.

Some other things you'll need to keep in mind is the cj defroster duct. The cowl on the body is different. You'll need to come up with some ideas for that..

Re: body tub swap

Thanks for the insight. Do you know if the CJ hardtop will fit on the wrangler tub since the roll bar is different?

Re: body tub swap

The top will work fine. BUt the rear hatch won't work with the tailgate

Re: body tub swap

I have a writeup on my webpage for a CJ-7 to '91 YJ tub.
Pretty simple process, just a few things to address.

Read my writeup and email me if you have any questions.
