Axle parts and Q\'s

Just got a D44 front from a 78 Waggy, needs some work and new parts.
Does anyone know of a good place to start getting those parts? Are the local part houses going to carry the parts I need or is there a national supplier out there that might. I looked at and they only had stuff for CJ/YJ/TJ/XJ and ZJ's nothing for the older full sixes. 4 Wheel Parts Wholesales wasn't much help either.
The guy I bought this from had started to rebuild it the decided to go full size. The outer shafts have a little surface rust on them, is this going to be a bad thing or can I take some steel wool to these and fix that?

Re: Axle parts and Q\'s

Any NAPA parts house should have all the parts you need short of a new gear set. The surface rust could be removed with steel wool, but emery cloth may be quicker. Go light on the bearing surfaces.

Any parts store should have the part or at least be able to get them the next day. They are nothing more then chevy parts.

For the rust, just wirewheel them with a wirewheel on a benchgrinder.
