CLUTCH?? Problem...OR WHAT???? GIRL NEEDS HELP!

Okay-first of all I'm a woman...let's get that outta tha way!LOL... Don't know much about my '91 Jeep Wrangler 4.0-6 cyl (52,000 original miles-in GREAT shape til now). As you can tell by the mileage, I don't use it very often.
Here's my problem, after sitting for a couple days I can not get it into gear. If I let it warm up, about 30 minutes, and pump the clutch VERY HARD about 10 times, it easily slips into gear. I can then drive all day with no problem-starting, stopping, etc. It doesn't pop out of gear, make any strange noises or do anything else abnormal. It then sits a couple days, and it's the same routine all over again!!! HELP!!! You guys are so smart...I need your input so that when I take it in to be repaired I'll seem like I know what I'm talking about. (Could it be plunger seal or something like that??).

Re: CLUTCH?? Problem...OR WHAT???? GIRL NEEDS HELP!

It sounds like your clutch master cylinder is low on fluid. It may need to be bled.

In a Wrangler with a 4.0, the clutch linkage isn't mechanical, it's hydraulic. Just like brakes. When the brake fluid is low, you need to pump the brakes to get stopping power. When the clutch master cylinder is low, you need to pump the clutch to get clutch action.

If you bring it to someone, have them check to see where it leaked from.

Hope this helps.

Good advice from Ken. Also either the master or slave cylinder can go bad too.
