Anybody else having problems with this forum?

The bbs forums are taking FOREVER to open for me for some reason, and sometimes they don't even open, just a blank white page, and the words on the bottom of IE say the page is opening, but it isn't. i can leave for 5 minutes, come back and the page still won't be open. Then I have to go back and start over..sometimes it works, most times not. thought it might be something wrong with my computer, but all my other websites I go to are working fine....I have been trying to type this message for about an hour now!! what gives? anybody else having the same problem? this just started happening a couple days ago, and I haven't changed anything on my computer...thanks, Ben

Re: Anybody else having problems with this forum?

1. If you've got a WinModem,
2. There could be memory leaks...
3. That cause this very problem.
4. Which is the reason I switched to XP,
5. It cures some of the connection problems,
6. I had with Win95 and Win98 using a WinModem.
7. Try Cold-rebooting and see if that helps.

You could also have some data mining bugs. Check out ad-aware.com. I found it very helpful in gaining back some lost speed.

Re: Anybody else having problems with this forum?

thanks leve and Drury. I do have windows xp. This has been happening for a coupe days now, and my computer has been shut completly off and started up, set for sveral hours before I started it back up. I am just wondering if it is a spyware thing, why doesn't it affect any of the other forums and web pages I visit? thanks again for the help....Ben

Re: Anybody else having problems with this forum?

Same thing here. This forum is horriddly slow, and *EVERY* other forum I look at loads very quick (except when large pictures are attached obviously)

I kinda think this forum is slow because of all the avatars, and those smile icon things it has to load all the time, but I don't know much about computers...

It is very frustrating to try and read this forum when internet exploder times out before you can load a page to read it.

FWIW I am running a 2.16ghz 512mb ram win xp machine...

Re: Anybody else having problems with this forum?

I'm glad someone else mentioned it first... I have a blisteringly fast connect and instantly load pages everywhere on the web..... except here. I noticed that it takes a noticeably longer time to load than any place on the earth. Nothing excruciatingly painful.... just annoyingly noticeable...like fifteen to sometimes thirty seconds. ONLY on this forum.

Add me to that list. And this morning I just gave up. Wouldn't even load at all. Seems to be OK again now.

I did this and it seems to help some. Doesn't take very long and is simple to do. I found 85 "Spy Ware bugs" so far.

You do need to keep upgrading the 'free' Ad-Aware for new diffinations.

Re: Anybody else having problems with this forum?

My old computer did that all the time. I had to type in Word, then cut and paste to this site just to post anything. Finally it slowed down so much the pages wouldn't load. It finally crashed one day, so I built the one I'm on now, which is blazingly fast, even on standard dialup (26,400 bps).

I ran MacAfee 2004 on the old hard drive and found 6 Trojan's lurking, thankfully MacAfee got rid of them. I also ran WinCleaner on it and deleted about 3,000 old and useless files, but I have yet to get it back up and running. It did have some of the Spy-Aware stuff on it, but MacAfee deleted them as well. Somewhere I have a list, I think it found 37 of those files on a 4GB HD. I am running a homebuilt 1.7 GHz with ME and 1/2 GB RAM.

[edit] I also got rid of Internet Exploder and went to Mozilla, which I like MUCH better.[/edit]
