9/16 set screws where to buy exhaust tubes amcV8

OK, i am getting rid of the factory air pump on my 80CJ with a AMCv8. The threads in the manifolds are 9/16 18. I cant just but a bolt in there, cause it kinda has to look like it belongs that way for inspection (remember i live in newjersey, where even though you pass emmisions, they can still fail you for non working pollution crap ). Any way, i am having a hard time finding 9/16 set screws. Now i have looked in MSC and a search on google, but no luck. Every ad goes from 1/2 to 5/8. I have a hard time believing that they dont make a 9/16 set screw. So where do i find these suckers.

I would hate to put a bolt in there then cut it off, cause if i ever have to get it out, that would make it tuff.

Thanks

hey , are those an inverted flare tube, if so go to napa,
( they might have them elsewhere ) i believe a 3/8 inverted flare plug is 9/16 thread. if memory serves me right, its like a # 131x6 weatherhead . if i remember i'll double check at work tommorrow, hope this helps, or i have also taken the old nuts and welded the hole shut , and made my own plugs, if you dont have a welder, you might try jb weld , hope this helps dave

Re: 9/16 set screws where to buy exhaust tubes amc

When I was building the original smoker in my Jeep, the late model manifolds already had various bolts and crap sealing the smog ports. Being in the same boat (inspection wise) and it having to *appear* stock, here's what I did:

- ground the heads off the bolts and blended with manifold surface
- brushed on some muratic acid (used to clean brick/block/cement)
- set outside overnight to rust
- washed off the next day

Now, the entire surface looks the same (no shiny ground places) and has fooled even a few hardcore folks..."where'd you find those early model manifolds". AFAIK, could be the only time you *WANT* something on your Jeep to rust!

i just went to tractor supply and picked up 7 3/8" pipe plugs, hit them with locktite, set them in and voilla, you can tell if you look closely, but it's not too bad as long as you dont stare.

I like Caver's idea.
Never see it if it "never existed".
