How wide are the slots in a Dana 60 spindle nut?

I'm taking my 60 apart and thought I could get away using two screwdrivers to get the thing out. Nope. The axle is now on a muddy slope, at an angle so crawling down to measure would not have been too precise. Tried a local Checkers and the guy actually complained that everyone always expects him to know something about cars. But they did have both a 2 1/2 inch and a 2 3/8 inch spindle nut socket but no knowledge which would work for me. The axle is off the front of an 86, Chevy one ton and has four slots on the nut.

Anybody know what size I need or have better sugestions on where to get the thing?

Thanks,

Bryan

One ton should have 6 slots in the spindle nuts.

Here is one on ebay.

Four slots is a dana 44/10 bolt.

Re: How wide are the slots in a Dana 60 spindle nut?

Thanks for the reply. Mine is a Dana 60 and it does have 4 slots. I did a bunch of research before posting and learned that there are several types of spindle nuts on a Dana 60. Some have the slots with squared off backs, some are rounded, some six, some four. I know that a four slot, square socket will work on all of them pretty well, just don't know what size it is.

Thanks,

Bryan
