Door strikers

Hey everybody,

I just got my hands on a cheap pair of doors that need a bit of work. I am told that the are from a CJ '79 with a paddle handle. From what I can find on the web it seems that they need a different door striker than the wranglers. I dont' have a chilton from before 87. Can anyone tell me if they are significantly different and I will need to weld or is it a part bolt on?

Thank you for your help,
Mick

Re: Door strikers

Nope the paddle style handles are good to go on the YJ's. The later model CJ's and Yj's share the same handles and strikers.

Re: Door strikers

I don't know when the paddle handle door started but I am sure the my parts 1980 Scrambler has the same doors and strikers as my 83 Scrambler. Sometimes I see these on eBay or if you just can't wait 4wd.com has a set for $69.95.

Here's a link to that part on 4wd.com

Re: Door strikers

If it is truly from a '79 it will not work on your YJ. Up until '81 CJ's used a flat plate on the door jam and a latch similar to a screen door or an older soft top door. Then they went to the style using a post and a clamping mechanizem which is what you have on your YJ. You may be able to retro fit the old style plate on the side of your Jeep. I was trying to find a pic for you but couldn't.

Re: Door strikers

Hate to piggy back on your post but I just tried to install as set of junkyard strikers off a Wrangler YJ onto my '77 CJ-7 and they did not really fit. They are of a similar shape but did not match the holes or the body contours behind the door. Anyone else had a similar experience?

[/ QUOTE ]1. The tub's the same..
2. The problem is there's no "B" pillar on pre-1982 tubs,
3. This pillar provides:[*]Tub side stiffener[*]Door striker mount[*]Seatbelt receiver mount
4. The part is available from DC for about $60 each.
5. And is spot welded to the inside of the tub wall and floor.

Re: Door strikers

Thanks LEVE. Dang, wish I knew that before I took that '83 CJ tub to the scrap yard! Woulda just cut the pillar off. Maybe I can find the piece in a scrap yard. Thanks again.
