Good price for late 70\'s Waggy Dana 44?

A fella at a local Jeep junk yard quoted me $400 for a front narrow trak Waggy Dana 44 w/ disc brakes. Seems pretty steep to me, especially since I just picked up a '97 model Dana 44 rear for $300 w/ 4.3 gears. I'm sure it would be cheaper at a more generic yard... if I can find one. Do you all agree or is this a good deal?

$250 from one of the yards around here. Got my last one for $100 from an individual.

I paid 100 for a complete disc to disc wide track wagoneer axle from a private seller, and see them listed them a lot for under 200.

Yep... you guys have confirmed my feelings. Guess I'll keep looking. BTW... anyone know what gear ratios were offered from factory in the narrow track Waggy/J-truck Dana 44? As far as I know I'm looking for a ’73-’79 Wagoneer or J-truck front Dana 44 (narrow track) w/ 6x5.5 stud pattern.

Yea that's too steep. I just got a whole '76 waggie w/ a 401 for free for hauling it off. Most of the Jeeps I have seen had 3.73 gears in them.

I paid $125 for a narrow track waggy front with disk brakes (although rotors were crap)

axle ratios could be 3.54 (open) or 4.09 (trac-loc)....as per my '76 FSM.
I agree the price is steep, I have found that Jeep or other specialty yards are often that way.

$100-$200 tops, I got mine cheaper than that even ( large package deal) with flat tops, and disk-disk)

lets see, mione from a 76 wag, with a V8 and auto was 3.08:1
