Oil Pressure Gauge

I noticed this morning when I headed to town that I was running in excess of 80 pounds of oil pressure

When you turn the Jeep off it goes to 0, then immediately when the key is just rolled forward to the "run" position, but the engine not started, it reads 40 lbs.

Sending unit? if so where is the oil pressure sending unit located on these trucks?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge

The oil sending unit on the 258 was located just below the # five spark plug. The sending unit was dome shaped and had a single wire attached to the top of it.

I have had a problem with this unit also in the past. My problem was that it would read 40 lbs consistently and then jump to 80 pounds. I felt my problem was directly related to stray current entering the circuit. I would notice that after the reading would jump to 80 lbs the deflection of the gauge would be the same as the voltmeter. When one went up the other would go up as well.

Have not figured it out yet. But I can tell you it never started out at 40 without the motor running.

Hope that helps,
