Stock YJ Diff question (rookie level)

Good morning all,
I'm helping a friend work on his 95 YJ, completely bone stock.

Noticed that the rear diff filler plug as not of the bolt-in variety, but more like a plastic stopper that had to be pried out. Is this standard, or was this someone's idea of a quick-fix? there doesn't seem to be any remenants of stripped threads anywhere. (or any threads for that matter) Anyone know of a better way to seal this hole besides gettign a new diff cover plate?

Second question. I noticed on the diffs that there is no drain plug, which let me to think, ok, you have to remove the cover plates to drain the fluid. Is there a proper gasket that goes in there, or do ya just use RTV?

Thank you for helping the rookie.

Some of the diff covers just have the crappy rubber plug. You will have to find a different cover to do any better than that.
And for re installation, you can use a gasket, but I just use red RTV.
