Gears and drop.

I just bought a D300 for my YJ..

Long term project is to get the D300 in, make new driveshafts, and flip the front.

I was keeping an eye open for a D30 with 4.10.. but it's not cheap.. I may as well get D44.

What if I got an empty D30? From a CJ.. passanger side drop, disk to disk.. or even hub to hub.. use my old disks/calipers.

then, take the 4.10 out of my D30 and put it in the CJ one.

Can it be done.

I only think of this, because everyone is throwing out a D30.. and I can get one for like $25.

This would be temporary until I can get something bigger..

But owud it work.

I know the D300 requies, new exhuast, new rear driveshaft, lengthend/shortened front shaft, clocking ring/spacer.

Am I forgetting anything?

Re: Gears and drop.

Nothing interchanges between the YJ and CJ dana 30. The knuckle ball joint spacing is different. The YJ uses a high pinion gear set. The axle lengths are different. The brakes are different. The only thing shared is the differential carrier.

Re: Gears and drop.

Does that mean gears change..

Or would I need reverse rotation for the high pinion.. to stop noise..

sorry.. I have really no clue about R&P.. except for that reverse rotaton doesn't go backwards.

I'm just trying to prevent myself from buying an expensive, inferior axle :-/
