92 XJ motor tranny swap to 87YJ HELP**UPDATE**

OK guys I think she finally came around

My wife is getting her a new car and I have talked her out of the 92 XJ.
What I would like to do is put the 4.0L and tranny in my 87 YJ but I don't know where to start and stop on the wiring to get every thing I need to operate the 4.0L in the YJ.

I know there are guys out there that have done this, any help would be greatly
appreciated.

The YJ has a 4.2L with (previously a BA10/5) busted 999 tranny and 231 x-case.

OK I just got off the phone with Benny at HESCO. They have the MPI wiring harness for this change out. Damn that is costly!!

$423.00 for a wiring harness . I guess I will be stuck getting it though .

Benny was quit helpful and said if I had problems to give him a call. He is their Jeep specialist I was told, and seems very well versed in the swap.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

Re: 92 XJ motor tranny swap to 87YJ HELP

i have put a 4.0 from a comanche into a wrangler that did have the 2.5 in it. i fortunately had a wiring harness from a 4.0 laying around. i only used the underhood portion of the harness, as the harness from the bulkhead connector to the inside is the same for 4 or 6. i used the computer from the comanche, and the engine and tranny, and case. you should be able to keep your case. i bought a new fuel pump as the 4.0 and the 2.5 are different. i also pirated the fuel lines, exhaust and misc parts from a junked out wrangler. i have the breakdown on the bulkhead connector somewhere on this darn thing, and can send it to you if you need it. the easiest way out would be to pirate the underhood wiring harness from a junkyard wrangler if you can find one. just unclip it at the bulkhead, and one at a time mark down and unhook each wire. start with the wires closest to the bulkhead, and work your way out. you can also probably get away with only half the harness, as one half of it is for lights and stuff. you can probably unhook everything in about an hour. it will come apart in two or three sections. not as bad as it seems.
