OT: Shipping 4 springs UPS? Anyone done it? $$$$

Anyone shipped leaf springs with UPS? How did you tag them? Any special tips? How much did it cost?

Thanks,
Tom

My brother shipped me tires before. He just put the shipping label across the tread and used a clear package tape and wrapped it around a few times. You should be able to do the same, or you would need to box them up.

I've just put the address on them and wrapped the label with clear tape too.

Re: OT: Shipping 4 springs UPS? Anyone done it? $$$$

Tom, I send my springs back to BDS on a regular occasion.. Hopefully I will have this addressed soon. Anyway, I get 3 hose clamps and stack 2 springs together. I then duct tape the clamps (don't want to cut anyone) and clear tape the shipping label on. I will also put another label on the set somewhere else for safety measures. I think a pair weighs 74 lbs, and is cheaper than sending 2 springs separately.
I have an account with Fed-Ex, and their ground rates are pretty good.
Hope this helps.....

How do you stack them? Side by side? How much does it cost?? I am trying to estimate for someone.

Thanks,
Tom

I've shipped 2 sets of springs though the us postal service, it was something like $20 to ship them from the UP of MI to the lower penisulia. I just rapped them in paper and taped them together. I'm guessing parcel post though the postal service is cheeper.

Tom, I stack them one on top of another. Usually they are pretty much bent, so they "spoon" easily. If they are new,or not bent, I still guess it will be ok. If I remember right, my charges were $15-18/set. I get a nice discount with Fed-ex, so your cost may be different..

I use some threaded rod and bolt mine together at the eyes, then wrap them in tape with the label on them. I usually ship USPS, which I have found to be the cheapest (up here), but they have a 70 lb limit, so the 7 leaf packs had to be broken down to be shipped. I have shipped them all over the country, never paying more than $25 for a pair.
