O/T Harveys complete jeep shop sucks!

This shop wanted to charge me about 2,400 for a drive shaft and a SYE installed! ( I blew mine on the freeway ). What a joke, just ordered the goods for $475. Anyone else delt with Harvey's? Sorry just a little frustrated, I towed my Jeep there and back today.

P.S..............Budd, lose that license plate frame!

I don't even know who you are talking about, But you could buy a new case and shaft for that money,,, Still have to put it in yourself but..

I have found that you will pay 2x as much for something at a "offroad shop" than you would anywhere else.. But they will also do things that the others won't.

That's carzy. I've kinda been starting my own unsed 4x4 part business and am hoping 1 day it blossoms into a full 4wd shop though i don't think i could live with my self if i charged that much for so little. I've never put in an sye but i'm guessing it's no more that 6 hours in a shop and even at $100 an hour for labor it still should be about 1/2 or less of what they quoted you and paying $100 an hour for labor you'd have to be nutz or paying for the president of DC to install the lift.

It's really quite simple to install an SYE. I think it took me about 3 hours or so, but I messed up a few times.

Look at your address! You're in the land of deep pockets and big taxes! How's a lowly 4WD shop owner to make a living?

Re: O/T Harveys complete jeep shop sucks!

California needs some sort of Jeep protection law! They know we are all crazy..... we need some sort of mental benefits! At least those of us that actually use or rigs off-road. Well thats what i get for being lazy! Ive been working construction by myself since my friend broke his leg, so i have not had the time or energy to install my SYE. Sooo if anyone knows of a place that is FAIR let me know, or any of you that want to make a $.

Re: O/T Harveys complete jeep shop sucks!

Something sounds bad wrong with that quote - or post - I've been dealing with Harvey's for many years, they are high, but not near that high. That must have included much more work than the post stated.
When other places give you that blank stare when you need something, Harvey's has it in stock. That alone is worth a little extra. The work I've seen them do is top notch.

Recently I was quoted - I think - about $200 labor at 4 West, Corona, for a SYE installation - just labor, not inluding the parts.

That quote from Harvey's must have included repairing/replacing other things with it, since he said he "broke" the old shaft. Or may have included unrelated items.

It's easy enough to check the price with them on a SYE installation - just call them! There's no need to flame a shop that does good work - one of the few "non butchers."

Re: O/T Harveys complete jeep shop sucks!

Harvey's always has the part you need I'll give em that. They do good work and thats why i took it there.I was not expecting that kind of estimate and wasting 1/2 a day of work. If you absolutely need a part use them, but i wont.
