replacing CJ gauges

I want to get the gauges in my CJ-7 to work well. I am planning to replace the fuel, temperature and oil pressure gauges because they have never worked very well. I will also replace the sending units at the same time.

Has anyone purchased the CJ 80-86 "Fuel and Temperature Gauge Kit" from 4WD Hardware? It looks like it includes both gauges that should drop in to the existing speedo cluster. I wanted to hear if they work well before shelling out the $80 to order.

Are there any cheaper replacement gauges that will fit in the speedo cluster?

Re: replacing CJ gauges

Tellico4x4.com sells:

"Gauge Pair Kit Fuel & Temp for 1955-86 CJ" $39.95
and
"Replacement Bi-Torque Design Fuel & Temp Gauge Pair for 1980-86 CJ" $69.96

whats the difference? What is "bi-torque design"?

Re: replacing CJ gauges

Are you aware that most CJ gauge problems are not caused by bad instruments but by faulty wiring, particularly by bad grounds?

I don't know anything about the gauges you've mentioned.

Re: replacing CJ gauges

Here is someone selling the OE voltage and oil pressure gauges on ebay for $10. Maybe he'll even kick in the oil pressure sending unit

I replaced my speedo cluster a year ago. Got it from JC Whitney and it works ok for $100
