Dad just got a TJ: Where the FAQ? (and a few q\'s)

My dad just got a '97 TJ. New 31x10.5 Wrangler MTR's and wheels are on order. Where a good place I can point him for FAQ type stuff: Specs, mods, etc...

What speedo gear to use with the 31's?
What axle gears did it come with?

Thanks, I'm a clueless-on-TJ's CJ guy.

Chances are it's still got the stock gearing, crawl under it, look at the diff cover, there should be a medal tag that will state what ratio the jeep has in it.

A good starting place for Jeep information is right here, also Jeepgod's website has some useful information.

As to your gearing question, if he intends to stay with the 31's, he will be o.k. with stock gears IF it has the 3.73 or lower (as in higher number). If he has to change gears, he should consider a minimum of 4.11's in case he might someday go to a 32 or 33" tire. 35's or higher I'd recommend 4.56 gears. Hope he enjoys it.
