D300 twin stick not letting me do frontWD

I just went out and bought a twin stick shifter for my dana 300. i read about how they allow you to do front wheel drive hi and low, and rear wheel drive Lo, etc.. and i thought "man that would be slick" so i forked out the money for one of these guys and now it isnt doing half of what it is supposed to.
it appears i can only shift the front axle once the back axle is in gear.
2wd hi and lo work fine.
neurtal is easy
4hi and 4 lo are fine as long as i put the rear in first, then the front.

but if the rear is in neutral the front seems like it is locked in place.

what the heck is that?

doesn anyone else have this problem?

am i overlooking something?

is there a way to get this to work?

please help.

i will be pissed if i spent all this time and money just so i can have 2lo.

Dana 300?
You should be able to use front wheel drive, low range.
My t-case shafts were really sticky, but once I moved them around a bit it went into front drive ok. You can supposedly remove a detent ball inside the t-case and be able to use front drive, high range as well. I just haven't had a need to crack my case open to do this.

Try locking the hubs and rocking the Jeep while putting pressure on the stick for the front axle to go into low range.

Re: D300 twin stick not letting me do frontWD

Keep in mind, Dana 300's never came with a twin stick so it isn't a matter of them "preventing" anything. It's just a design of how the case works. Do some yankin' and crankin' on the front axle stick with the hubs locked (to move the gears while you rock the jeep) and I bet it will go.

I'm not sure how hard it is to remove this detent in the case to allow full range of options. The insides of gear cases scare me so I'll probably never do it.

Re: D300 twin stick not letting me do frontWD

As I recall the purpose of twin sticking it was to undo front axels in a tight turning situation without having to get out and unlock the front hubs.
the detent inside the T case also prevens you from putting the front in low and the rear in high and busting your T case...
this is just what I remember from previous conversations on this board about twin sticking....you could always look it up in the search, for further info.
