Winch Bumper

I was thinking about getting a winch and bumber to put on my 97 TJ. I liked the look of how the ARB bullbars look but my concern is that this will be alot of wieght and make the front end lower. Is this true? Anyone have any good idea of winchbumpers?

Re: Winch Bumper

JeepinVA,
A winch and a good bumper is a great purchase, but an investment at the same time.
To answer your question that IS a lot of weight on the front end. IMO too much!!
More on the front bumper. ARB bulls are a great bumper, solid, big and heavy. If that's what you're looking for you found a good one. But, because of those characteristics, it limits your approach angle, gives the Jeep another place to hang up, and adds the weight.
Depending on the winch of choice, look for something simple. IE a winch plate and exisiting bumper. Hell, bumpers are a great place to experiment with some FAB work. 4" C channel, is cheap, and you can add your own custom touches. It makes that winch and plate just that much more a possibitly in terms of cost.
Check out the mags, and catalogs and see what look you like, and then think about it's funtionality.
Just my thoughts...Cheers

Re: Winch Bumper

I built my own bumpers. and I'm very pleased with myself. but, given the time spent, it is probably more economical buying some of the custom job bumpers around made by some of your fellow jeep hobbyists.

for example:

www.jeeperman.com

thease bumpers are exactly what you would build yourself with a little bit of practice and a few tools.

there is even a guy lurking on our for sale board offering to build bumpers for people with money.

www.stevesjeepfab.com $125 for a front bumper!!!! (but no winch mount)

brackets for your own project at www.troutindustries.com

Re: Winch Bumper

I have the ARB Bull Bumper and love it. But, if the PO hadn't already had it installed, I would have gone with something a little less substantial. Love the looks of it and it is hell for stout. Haven't suffered any sagging in the front end from it. Been on for 5 years with no problems.
