I have an 83 Cj-7 which is mostly stock. I am going to take it down this winter and redo the whole Jeep. One of the prodjects is to give it a new paint job. I would like opinions and suggestions on a good color to paint it. I am open to any ideas. The Jeep will have 4" lift, 33's, aluminum wheels and a new top (any color). It won't have a lot of fancy do-dads on it but will simple and hopefully cool. Any sugestions?
Gray primer then a few coats of metallic silver. Finish off with 4-5 coats of clear and it should allow enough protection to buff out any minor scratches. Of course you would need to use single stage paints and should use a good quality HVLP gun and a top notch respirator if you do it your self.
I am parital to Viper Yellow and 1969 Charger Red - it looks red in some light and looks orange in another. I have my car painted with it and it mainly looks orange and turns red when it gets darker out.
The dark green metallic Jeep used in the early '80's. Then do top in a light beige or tan. Second choice (if going non-metallic) is bright candy apple red, but don't do red enamel - I don't think it holds up well to the sun.
Are you spraying yourself or having it done? Based on a thread a few days ago, I'm going to check out the local MAACO shop and see how good their $500 job is. (I understand MAACO quality varies considerably from franchise to franchise.)
