Herculiner over Herculiner?

In the bodywork and painting on my CJ, I am getting close to the point of doing the floor and inside of the tub. My question is this, the tub and floor has been done before, with Herculiner or something like Herculiner, it is in good condition, except for the floor wells in front. Can I just give the old finish a light coating of Herculiner and give the bare floors a good coat?

Re: Herculiner over Herculiner?

I have done it to my jeep no problem, that is what it says to do when you need to touch up scuffed spots. not going to hurt anything, just make sure that it isnt a big rust spot you are covering, or you will have a nice problem later on.

I havnt seen you around in a while.. there is a Florida jeepers BBS now

Re: Herculiner over Herculiner?

i just re-herculined my jeep this weekend. other than clean the floor, i didn't prep it in any way. it stuck to the other herculiner very very well, no problems whatsoever. as previously stated, just don't put the stuff over rust, or there positively will be problems later on. all in all, you should be fine.

Re: Herculiner over Herculiner?

Thanks Dan, I will give it a try, I have all ready hit the bare metal on the floor boards with my sandblaster, so it looks like I am good to go.

Re: Herculiner over Herculiner?

I would think that you need to atleast prime the bare metal before putting a top coat on it. IMHO

Re: Herculiner over Herculiner?

Dan, thanks for the info on Florida Jeepers site, I just now registered there. Also I picked up a Herculiner kit today, and it has instructions for coating over Herculiner, pretty much like you said.
