Blower upgrade - all motors have hole in side?

Well its not quite winter but I figure I'll do this while its still relatively warm. I basically understand what I'll be doing and I know the part number I need. The question I have is do all of the motors have that hole in the side of them or do some not? I thought I read that some don't but I can't find where. Which ones don't? I know I need a short shaft one too, so all I need to know is about that hole.

1. No...
2. The hole is in the Air Conditioned models.
3. The hole is of no consequence.
4. I've had one of them working for 7 years on my CJ.
5. I would recommend on thing..
6. Weld a stud onto the body of the motor.
7. Then run a seprate ground wire for the motor to the tub or frame.
8. That motor can really suck up the amps.

You have checked to make sure the upgrade works on yours? That was a transition year and as I understand it, some upgraded and some don't.

Yeah, in 1977 they switched from a motor which was within the heater box to one that went through the firewall. I have one that sticks out of the firewall so it'll work for me. I just have to find time to tackle this project and make sure I do it right. My biggest problem is going to be getting to the firewall from the engine side because the PO welded a huge battery tray in that blocks where I need to go.

Mine has the hole in it. Wrapped it with electrical tape when I installed it to keep the water out and it works like a champ, although I doubt it would make a big difference.

Mine came with a rubber plug too. I found that the one for a chevy with a/c was the long shaft motor. The non-a/c motor fit perfect.

I also went Chevy blower upgrade, and it had a hole in the side, but no rubber plug... guess I got Gyped....

I just wrapped Duct tape around it to seal the hole. speaking of which I propbably need to go back and see if it's still there...

Nick, if you haven't already figured out.....they all come with the hole. My opinion says plug or tape it off on a CJ that see's offroad use. It will keep the mud out better. It has a purpose but will work fine for a long time with it plugged.
