"Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in

and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid

Strange.

Re: OT- Interesting brain trick

I'd bet that's a terrific reading test. A poor reader would take forever to get through that.

I think it was on Q-tec that I saw that. I even had the wife come in and read it. I think it's neat how the brain works at certain things.
I almost posted the same thing here myself )

<can of worms>

Interesting bit of research, but not very encouraging for many of the kids coming out of high school today, whose major claim to literacy is the "internet dialect" w/ shrt fms, b4's, RU's, etc...I was a teaching assistant during my final year of university, and the kids in my first year class couldn't spell to save their life - I was told to mark them on the content, and ignore spelling and grammar. If I handed in something like that in my job, I wouldn't last long.

Re: OT- Interesting brain trick

When my big brother was in early grade school - late '40s, early '50s - the new fad was "Look-See" reading. They tried to teach kids to recognize whole words. I remember my mother fuming because he had been told that he could recognize "yellow" by seeing "two sticks sticking up."

Learning to read that way didn't work well for him, but it's apparently the real end result. Interesting.

Re: OT- Interesting brain trick

He WAS in trouble. Reading was always a struggle for him. He overcame the bad start and is quite successful, but I wonder what more he might have accomplished had he enjoyed reading. Maybe he could have been a bum like me.
