Hydraulic clutch fluid???

New Master/slave clutch install...TJ
Is dot 5 ok? Or, should I just use dot 3, so I can keep it simple?
Thanks, Ricky...seeya...

Re: Hydraulic clutch fluid???

Not sure on your TJ, but I use good ol' fashioned DOT 3 in my CJ. That way I only need one spare bottle. Works fine for me.

Re: Hydraulic clutch fluid???

If it were me, I'd put DOT 5 silicone in the clutch now, and convert the brakes next time a cylinder needed attention. The rebuild kits are cheap, and silicone is terrific. Heck, I bet you could get all the brake cylinder kits for under $50, and do it now.

And I just talked with my "go to" parts guy. He said that he's had several customers convert to silicone by draining the system for several hours, then refilling and bleeding generously with silicone. No problem.

Re: Hydraulic clutch fluid???

Thanks for the advice. When I went to install the parts, there was already fluid in the reservoir. The cap said dot 3, so I figure its already in there..Dammitt..
Bright side, if/when my buddy picks this up, he won't be confused with fluids.
