Still SOL On The Title Situation

Well So Far I'm Still SOL About Getting A Title For My CJ. I'm Really Not Sure What To Do At This Point. There Is Really No Legal Way To Get A Title For My Jeep. I'm Really Getting Frusterated And Thinking About Selling Parts And Pieces Off It.

Re: Still SOL On The Title Situation

There IS a legal way. Sell it to a dealer in a southern state that doesn't have titles. He'll sell it back to you and send a bill of sale. Take the bill of sale to your DMV. Thay'll issue a title. The dealer charges a hundred or so for his trouble. I think Alabama or Mississippi will work.

A friend built a Lotus 7 kit car and didn't have a bill of sale for the transmission because it had originally come from England, and Missouri wouldn't issue a title without that. He finally went the southern B.O.S. route and had no trouble.

None of the other suggestions panned out?

Re: Still SOL On The Title Situation

Try

www.broadwaytitle.com

They do the loophole like Mississippi, but they are in Alabama... costs like $200 or so. I did this for my commando. just have to make ssure your jeep was never titled in your state. If it was you can look around for another VIN plate from another state (can be untitled vehicle) and use that number. The website should tell you if you are able to do this in your state. Some states will not allow this to happen.

Re: Still SOL On The Title Situation

I have parts of a 1985 CJ-7 with clear MI title and complete set of VIN tags. The Jeep is disassembled and would need to be picked up with a trailer (at your convenience, whenever) but the rest I could send in the mail.
LMK if you would be interested

Re: Still SOL On The Title Situation

There has GOT to be a way for you to do this. In PA I can get a title for an ABANDONED vehicle by merely petitioning the local magestrate (district justice). Certain criteria must be fullfilled (advertise in the local paper for three days, etc.) and it does take time. This is done all the time.

There should also be title avenues for kit cars and street rods ...which should be NO DIFFERENT if you bought all the aftermarket parts for your CJ and built it from scratch (which is one of the few vehicles that you can do this).. Whose to say that you didn't piece this together from a number of salvage vehicles ....or just bought all the parts seperately??

Re: Still SOL On The Title Situation

Here is the info from the back of a street rod magazine on how to get a title:

TITLES
Buy - Sell - Trade

Street Rod'n
331 Dunkirk Dr., RC
Owings, MD 20736
410-257-6522

I don't know the details of how it works, I'm sure they can explain it.
