WANTED GEAR INDICATOR FOR 82CJ AUTO TILT COLUMN

Hi Guys, Trying to find the indicator (P R N D 2 1 ) for an 82 automatic with tilt column. I think its part number PO 7.537-1. It locks in on one side and has a small clip on the other to hold it on. No luck in yards or at Jeep. I think it is a GM column but those guys dont have the time to look it up. Any leads to where to find one? Or does someone have one to sell?? If you have two I will take both and keep one for a spare. Someone tried to steal my Jeep and in doing so ripped off this piece and it was lost. E-mail me direct at [email protected] THANKS FOR THE HELP Vinny

Re: WANTED GEAR INDICATOR FOR 82CJ AUTO TILT COLUMN

Good luck finding a new one. I broke both indicator pieces and couldnt find any new stuff. I ended up glueing the piece that moves and a friend had the other piece in his junkyard. But that was the only one he had.

One place i didnt try and you should call is willys overland. I think the site is www.willysoverland.com.

1. Yep, these parts are getting rare.
2. Have you walked a Wrecking Yard?
3. That part should be on the columns of,
4. Mid 70's through mid 80's GM products.
5. A Caprice comes to mind....

Re: WANTED GEAR INDICATOR FOR 82CJ AUTO TILT COLUMN

You could check GM restoration parts suppliers. A lot of those mid to late '70s cars are popular restoration projects. You might run into a snag though as the console shifts are a lot more popular for restoration so there may not enough demand for the column indicator to stock it.

There are some salvage yards that specialize in the old stuff, but government involvement has made these cars scarce. In trying to get rid of the polluting gas guzzler vehicles they have allowed companies to have them crushed and turn them in as a clean air credit against their factory smokestack emissions. Never mind that the vehicle hasn't been driven in the past 5 years, it's still good for a credit.

If you're not a purest, as a last resort, you could go to a floor shift conversion.

It's been a while since I looked close at them. But the indicator looked like the same thing as a GM fullsize van column. Try about early to mid 80's. The used the same size cover as the jeeps and had the indicator built right on it.
Pontiac, if you haven't check that. I don't have a jeep column to compare the parts with.
(and all I'm talking about is the indicator, I know the column won't work)

I havent checked every thing, cause i have a working unit and chevy van columns are hot items for the street rod guys, so they dont last long. But all of the chevy vans columns i have worked on are a different style. If i remember right, they are bigger.
