Windshield hinge bolt replacements

In the next couple weeks, I need to replace a windshield hinge. Since it is going to get painted black, I'll be taking both off. I know I'll end up having to drill out a few. What is a good replacement for the flat head torx bolts? My M38A1 has flathead phillips bolts and I've seen square drive and allen socket bolts. Is there a hex head with a tapered seat for this? What have others used? Thanks.

I have never seen a hex head with the countersink. You might want to check out these websites though, they may have something for you.

McMaster Carr
Fastenal (works great when ya spell it right, man I'm an idiot!)

Hope this helps

Re: Windshield hinge bolt replacements

That is exactly what I've used for my windshield hinges; stainless countersunk hex heads.... Got a bag full of them. But I live in the U.K. and I am fairly sure that these would be available in States as well...

Re: Windshield hinge bolt replacements

Well, I'm not familiar with a Tapered seat External hexhead bolt, so I gave Pops a call. His business is Automotive fasteners and has worked in Fasteners his whole career. Said he know of nothing like what you're talking about.. said the only things he's ever see are the ones you've mentioned.. philips, flat, torx and socket screw (alan).....

He said you could take one of those and weld a hex head on it..

I've seen 'em too, seems like in explosion proof electrical junction boxes. I don't know where you'd ever buy them though.

We used to have a golf tournament every year were I worked. The purchasing department would solicit door prizes from our suppliers, one of them was KC Bolt Nut and Screw. Every year they would supply two bags of bolts. The company president always got one and then somebody got the other. There were all kinds of strange bolts in there that you couldn't buy.

4wd Hardware sells the bolts out of the catalog. They are around a buck a piece though.
