Can\'t find a Rubicon....

It seems as though all the dealers in my area have sold out of Rubicons, the only thing I can find are the tacky Tomb Raiders. Is there a shortage of these everywhere? Will they be continuing it for the 2004 model year?

Re: Can\'t find a Rubicon....

hummm, for the price of a rubi... I seem to think that you could buy a tj, slap in a 44 and some arb's, get some new boots of the swamper type and still be a few thousand ahead. (Thats alot of root beer money saved!)

Re: Can\'t find a Rubicon....

I did the math when I bought my Rubicon, and the Tomb Raider version is silly.

Yes, you can put in D-44's with Disc brakes and 4.11's in both ends.
Yes you can put ARB's in both ends, but doing it with a limited slip in the rear would be quite a trick.
Yes, you can put in the driveshaft slip joint eliminator kit.
Yes you can put in the preferred 5 speed with the lower 1st gear.
Yes you can put in the 4.0 crawler gears in the T-case.
Yes you can put on the side protectors.
Yes you can get 2 tops, air conditioning, etc.
Yes you can get the larger tires and rims equivelent to 31x10.5's. (No matter what you do, those need to go larger anyway.
And yes, you can even get the decal if you want.

And, if you have a shop put all that on for you, you might be able to get them to warranty it for a few miles.

But after all told, it was cheaper to buy it with a 70,000 mile warranty.

I agree with RRich. Even though I don't have a Rubi, I have been looking at the pros and cons. Can't build the same Jeep for the same money.

Re: Can\'t find a Rubicon....

Have you thought about ordering one? I know a lot of places they are on backorder but you might be able to go through places like cars direct. Definetly dont waste your time on that stubid tomb raider rubicon, what a waste of money

Re: Can\'t find a Rubicon....

If push comes to shove, Yucca Valley, CA still has a couple - where I got mine. I saw them there a couple days ago. I believe they went out production a couple months ago, tooling up for next year's model.

I'm pretty impressed with mine for an "out of the box" vehicle. It has a wheel hop problem like all Wranglers with that arm suspension. Rancho 9000's help, but doesn't cure it completely.
Soon it'll get the Terraflex Long Arm Suspension with 35x12.50's. If it still hops, I'll probably add a second set of shocks to dampen it.

Liberty Jeep in Rapid City S.D. has three of them. One red, one tan and one grey one. I looked at them last week. $32K and it's yours.

Re: Can\'t find a Rubicon....

Yes, they are producing them in 2004 and you should be able to order one through your dealer now. Trying to find a brand new 2003 will be difficult because they were a limited production model. I'll be ordering one soon - just have to decide on a color.

Re: Can\'t find a Rubicon....

Check with Newcastle Jeep on Route 1 (in Newcastle), they have a few, even some Rubi's with added brush guards and such, and oh yes, they have 2 Tomb's. Decent prices as long as you don't have a trade-in.
