Cherokee Dana 44 to TJ questions

I found a sweet deal on a Grand Cherokee rear. It looks like a dana 44 but it has a rubber plug in it insted of a screw in plug.

Question is how difficult is this gonna be to put in my tj?

I will have to change ratio, but I assume the brackets will not line up and will have to be moved, any Ideas??

I will still have to acuire axle shafts as the shafts have been removed from the rearend but it also had disk brakes orignaly..

I am going to get it, just trying to decide if I should keep it for me or try to make a buck on it??

Re: Cherokee Dana 44 to TJ questions

Hey Jeff,
Does it have the aluminum center section? Might be something to worry about. I'm not sure if the brackets will line up your not it would probably be close, the track on a ZJ and a TJ are pretty close I know that.

Re: Cherokee Dana 44 to TJ questions

are u talking about a 90's grand cherokee, those came with the aluminum center section which some say is weak i have no idea, but the worst is the gears are a goof size and are more expensive and there is a very limited number of lockers for it, do a search, everyone says its a weak axle, but ive never heard of anyone breaking one.. so who knows....good luck and find out what u can, its still 30 spline if any of this helps...

Re: Cherokee Dana 44 to TJ questions

It's gota be a real good deal to keep one of those axles. Add up the cost of parts and a set of gears and lockers for it and other axles become a much better option. I know i sold a set of shafts for one of those for $50 a while ago though try and find/ price out the dic brake stuff it adds up real quick.
