31x10.5s on 97 TJ no lift

I was wondering if 31x10.5 BFG all-terrains would fit on a completely stock 97 TJ. I am planning on eventually lifting it...so just for clearance what would be the best lift on an extreme budget. I was thinking a 2 inch suspension or a 1 inch body, and how hard are they to do yourself? Thanks!!

they will fit your stock rig just fine.
As for the lift on a very tight budget, try this link...
Make your own coil spacers

I got the material for mine today. Less than $10 for the whole deal. You'll need access to some decent tools though.
Good luck.

31-10.50's on stock setup No problem. Been there done that.

As for the Lift 2" cost as much as 3" but 4" cost more because of the SYE.

I would go for the 3" and forget the body lift. Just my .02

Re: 31x10.5s on 97 TJ no lift

I put 31x10.5 BFG A/Ts on my 97 TJ and did some moderate off-roading with no problems with rubbing. You should go to a lift for anything larger. Check any 4x4 site selling wheels and tires and they usually have a lift to tire size guide for you.

I just added the Rancho Rockcrawler 2.5" lift for added height which makes a world of difference over some terrain and ricks that I needed just that little extra to get over without bouncing on my rocker guards.

As has already been said yes they will fit. I do have two things to add though from experience.
1. You will rub on the lower control arm when turned hard over unless you.
a. turn out the stops
b. purchase offset wheels (American Racing AR-767 can be had for about $50 a piece.)
2. You will rub quite a bit especially if you have your swaybars disconnected you will especially notice it in the rear.

Excellent point. When I went to my 31x10s I bought new wheels with 4.5" backspacing whereas the factory rims were 3.75.
