Anyone know if a Column from a G. wagon is tha same as a CJ column? Mainly in the length, mounting and splines at the shaft.

Thanks,

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but they do appear to be the same at first glance. I have heard that the steering column from a S10 pickup is a direct swap, but don't remember where I got that information so I can't vouch for the accuracy on that one.

Not much help, but maybe it will help lead you in the right direction.

Good luck

Re: Steering columns?? Gwagon same as CJ??

Tom,
I just went through this using a steering column from a 89 Grand Wagoneer. I took the auto column from my 81 Scrambler down to the Jeep dismantler and matched it up with the one from the Wagoneer. All dimensions were identical including the length, spline count and the linkage connection for the gear shift. Probably the coolest part about this swap was I was able to gain a tilt wheel and move the wipers and high beam switch to the column itself. I also now have the option of cruise control on the turn signal stalk as well.

I was able to pick up the column including new bearings for 250.00, this included a credit of 150.00 for my old CJ automatic column. I've gotta think there are plenty of these columns available out there for anyone thinking of this swap, probably for less than the 250.00 I paid.
