Re: Howell TBI questions

I am running the stock thermostat in my '84 with 258. I have no idea how hot my computer gets. It is mounted where the original was.

Re: Howell TBI questions

Yes, you should be running a 195 Thermostat. If you don't, it will never go into closed loop.

Don't know how hot the computer should get, mine's mounted in the stock location above the heater box, and I've never touched it with the engine running. I would imagine it would get warm, but shouldn't get really hot.

Re: Howell TBI questions

Nice thing about the Howell setup is that it is based on GM components and design. Should go into closed loop at about 145 degrees and 600 deg. at the O2 sensor. I'd sure keep the computer shielded from the exhaust heat as possible.

Re: Howell TBI questions

It does not go into closed loop at 145. I've monitored it with a laptop (the program tell whether it is in closed loop), and it does not happen until about 180.

Re: Howell TBI questions

What program are you using to monitor the computer with? Where do I get a copy?
Thanks.

Re: Howell TBI questions

I'm using WIN ALDL. It's available at http://www.winaldl.webhop.net/ (it's free)

You have to build an inferface cable, but it's simple. All you need is 1 transister and a couple of resisters. There are schematics on the site.
