What came w/ a Quadrajet carb? Which one to get?

I need to get rid of my Edelbrock 4 barrel. I've heard that the Quadrajet is a good replacement. When I go to the yard, what year, make, model car/truck should I use to have them cross-reference?

Re: What came w/ a Quadrajet carb?

Almost every GM with a V8 from late 60's to mid 80's had a Quadrajet of some kind. They should know what you need there.
Sorry I can't give you any help on which one's are the best to look for.
I think the Edelbrock is the same carb but newer (they bought out Rochester, and started making the Q-jet under their name). But don't hold me to that, I'm hardly an expert.

I got my q-jet from an 85 suburbon. I also had a edelbrock before this.

what you don't want is a computer controled qjet. look for a two prong plug in the front on the top of the carb, if it has it avoid it.

also pay attention to the choke setup. electric would be nice. a lot of the automatic chokes have a heater tube running from the intake, not so easy to retrofit.

Is it bad to get one with the gas feed on the side instead of the front....like in a Crysler or Caddy?

Also, will the Q-jet fit on my Edelbrock aluminum intake?

Re: What came w/ a Quadrajet carb?

The Edelbrock wont run on angles. As soon as I get the front pointed up or down it stalls out and I have to hold it to the floor to start it again and almost keep it hammered to keep it running.

What adaptor do I need. Someone (a good source) told me that a Q-Jet would bolt right on, but when searching here I read that it wouldn't.

Re: What came w/ a Quadrajet carb?

depends on which intake you have. i had a edelbrock on a torker ii ran great the strange thing is the edelbrock is probably the best carb i have ever owned.but i see alot of bad opinions of em. so which intake do you have i think a q-jet will bolt up to a performer but not a torker torker ii or victor.

Re: What came w/ a Quadrajet carb?

It says Performer AMC.
The Carb says Edelbrock on the front and Weber on the side.
I guess I'll find out for sure the hard way.
The adaptors are rumored to only be $12 to $15 at autozone.
