Fibreglass CJ fenders - trim for shocks?

I just started installing a 4wd Hardware passenger side fender on my 84 CJ7. The inner tub interferes with the shock and probably needs about 6" trimmed out of it. Is this normal? Will it weaken the fender?

Also, do you just use bolts and washers to hold the fenders on? Do I need to use larger washers than the steel fenders used?

Fiberglass fenders 99% of the time will need trimming to fit. They are pretty much mass produced and the product will vary. I had to trim my fibrglass fenders. And I believe most people hav etrimmed theirs.

Re: Fibreglass CJ fenders - trim for shocks?

I had to trim mine as well to fit. Unfortunately I was too generous in cutting the first time and went too far.

Yes this is very normal because the fenders have to fit many years and many varied applications. I always thought however, it was funny that the fender inners don't go all the way back to the body. hmmm.

The attached pic shows my trimming when I had just finished my glass body 3 years ago.

TiminMb, yes I've got a ton of pictures during and post-buildup. Look at the other current post above regarding wheel size. I've got a full view pic there. Otherwise, tell me what you're looking for. Here is the rear with the military tailights I used.

These pics were taken a few years ago when I had just finished re-doing the whole thing. Mostly the same now.
