Need Help Fast Changing Pinion Seal

I am changing the pinion seal on my 73 CJ5 with a Dana 44. I bought a new timkin seal and I am not sure if it will work. SHhuld I use the new one with out the washer/spacer (the metal thing on the far left) or is it necessary?

Here are a couple of pics of the new and old seals

The two on the left are the old one and the one on the right is new.

Re: Need Help Fast Changing Pinion Seal

I looked but I did not see any races in there. It appears that the seal will fit but I am not sure if the metal washer if necessary. I would hate to do it twice.

The metal "washer" is the oil slinger. Put it back.

Re: Need Help Fast Changing Pinion Seal

Thanks Will. Well I needed to get it back together so I guessed and i guessed wrong. I will be tkaing the seal abck out tomorrow morning then. Boy I am glad the seal was cheap. Soes the new seal look like it would work. I know frmo time to time the aftermarket seals do not look exactly like the originals. Thanks again.
